A Level VI Inspection is a strict inspection standard that must be met for shipments of spent nuclear fuel, high-level radioactive waste and transuranic waste. Only commercial motor vehicle law enforcement personnel specially trained and certified by CVSA may conduct Level VI Inspections.
Students who attend and complete the course and pass the final exam with a score of 90% or above will receive a Level VI Certificate of Proficiency and will be certified and permitted to conduct Level VI Inspections.

2023 Level VIII Inspection Forum

CVSA is hosting this two-day forum focused on exploring electronic driver and vehicle inspections and the state of the art in systems necessary to achieve them as defined in the CVSA North American Standard Level VIII definition. Related remote vehicle screening and inspection approaches, including considerations for safety enforcement and inspections of CMVs equipped with automated driving systems will also be explored.
Motor carriers, enforcement and government personnel, innovative technology developers, related association representatives and others who are interested are encouraged to attend.

Lithium Battery Inspection Training Course – Virtual – April 12, 2023

CVSA will hold a four-hour virtual training course on Inspecting Lithium Battery Shipments on Wednesday, April 12, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. MST.
The use of lithium batteries continues to increase, which means more lithium batteries are being transported in commerce, including initial-use lithium batteries and used batteries for recycling. This course will introduce the roadside inspector to the types of lithium batteries and common uses; lithium battery chemistry and safety; lithium battery classification in §173.185, including exceptions; shipping papers, when required; marking; labeling; placarding; emergency response; incident investigation; and undeclared lithium battery shipments.

Crude Oil Transportation Course – Virtual – April 19, 2023

CVSA is offering its virtual Crude Oil Transportation Training Course on Wednesday, April 19, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. EDT.
This six-hour course will introduce inspectors to the regulatory and transportation history of crude oil and current compliance requirements specific to crude oil in bulk packaging. The course will include instruction and a post-test. Prior to attending this training, you should already have some knowledge of the hazardous materials table, shipping papers, marking, labeling and placarding. This course WILL NOT cover 49 CFR Part 172 in detail but will provide a high-level overview of the regulations.

2023 North American Cargo Securement Harmonization Public Forum - Memphis

This public forum is an unrestricted event open to all stakeholders to voice issues/concerns with cargo securement regulations in pursuit of developing and implementing uniform regulatory requirements for the securement of cargo on or within commercial motor vehicles throughout North America.
The 2023 North American Cargo Securement Harmonization Public Forum serves to continue efforts begun by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) in 1993 when it approved funding and management for research designed to update and improve cargo securement standards. Subsequently, CCMTA’s initial research and standards were completed and the effort was expanded with support from the United States in an interest in harmonizing a North American standard.
Today, on an ongoing basis, Canadian and U.S. regulators and other constituents continue effort through this forum to identify and, where appropriate, address cargo securement issues for potential implementation in an internationally harmonized standard. The forum is open to the industry, enforcement and all interested parties.

Shipping Lithium Batteries Training Course - Virtual - May 30, 2023
