This course will teach inspection personnel to inspect HM shipments for compliance with Hazardous Materials Regulations at the weigh/inspection station or a carrier’s or shipper’s place of business. Participants are given opportunities to practice the job functions related to the regulation of HM.

Participants will learn about the operational use of the Hazardous Materials Table (§172.101) as well as shipping paper and placarding requirements. They will also learn about the CVSA North American Standard Hazardous Materials Out-of-Service Criteria.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be qualified to conduct HM inspections.

This course is open to law enforcement only. 

This course will teach participants how to conduct a complete forensic examination of commercial motor vehicles involved in a crash, identify causal factors that contributed to the crash, and assist reconstructionists and prosecutors more thoroughly in criminal cases.

Students will address post-crash investigation considerations in the classroom and conduct “in the field” advanced post-crash inspections based on all available facts and evidence. Upon successful completion of this course, investigators/inspectors will be able to complete a comprehensive post-crash inspection, secure and collect evidence, identify pre- and post-crash violations, and properly document defects on inspection and additional reports.

A new entrant safety audit is an examination of a new motor carrier’s operations and its compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and applicable Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR). The audit provides educational and technical assistance to motor carriers on the safety and operational requirements of the FMCSRs and HMRs and gathers critical safety data needed to assess the carrier’s safety performance and basic safety management controls.

This training course will teach participants to deliver quality safety audits in accordance with the FMCSRs and HMRs while applying the standards of the Field Operations Training Manual. In addition, participants will learn to utilize software programs specific to the New Entrant Safety Audit Program.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be qualified to conduct new entrant safety audits.

A new entrant safety audit is an examination of a new motor carrier’s operations and its compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and applicable Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR). The audit provides educational and technical assistance to motor carriers on the safety and operational requirements of the FMCSRs and HMRs and gathers critical safety data needed to assess the carrier’s safety performance and basic safety management controls.
