Performance-Based Brake Tester Operator Course
This course will train inspection personnel to utilize a performance-based brake tester (PBBT) as part of a roadside inspection. The course will equip the PBBT operator with the knowledge and competency to conduct performance-based brake tests on commercial motor vehicles, trailers and motorcoaches/buses. Each operator will understand the importance of a PBBT result and how the result affects road safety and the commercial motor vehicle driver’s responsibilities.
At the conclusion of this course, participants will understand:
- Braking percentages and when to place a commercial motor vehicle or combination out of service
- Correct vehicle preparation prior to initiating a brake test
- Safe and correct use of the PBBT
- How to report results and provide feedback on the findings of the report
